Winners to get promotions

Indian sportspersons working for the central government are set to get not one or two but up to three out of turn promotions during their career term if they win medals at international events, including the Olympics.

This policy got the Union Cabinet’s nod yesterday and is expected to be a huge morale booster for Indian athletes, most of whom train on shoestring budgets.

Medals at events like Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World Championships will also be considered, a government release said.

Besides, record-breaking medal winning performances at the National Games are also set to be taken into consideration for promotions, it was revealed.u00a0
