ChatGPT is a generative pre-trained transformer that was launched by the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research laboratory OpenAI in November 2022.

GPT-3 is an autoregressive language model that outputs remarkably human-like written text . It is one of the largest and most advanced language models in the world, clocking in at 175 billion parameters.

The technology works by learning from enormous amounts of data how to respond to any user in a human-like way.

ChatGPT is remarkably capable of engaging in conversational interactions and responding in a way that surprisingly appears human.

While large language models predict the next word in a string of words, ChatGPT uses ‘Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback’ (RLHF) as an additional training layer that uses human feedback, to enable ChatGPT to follow directions and generate responses that are satisfactory to humans.

OpenAI LP is a subsidiary of OpenAI Inc., a nonprofit organisation. The company is well-known for DALL E, a deep learning model that creates images from text prompts. Its CEO is Sam Altman, who previously was president of Y Combinator.

Microsoft is a partner and investor in the company and they have jointly developed the Azure AI Platform.

Microsoft will soon debut ChatGPT  on the tech giant's cloud-based Azure OpenAI Service, its CEO Satya Nadella announced. "ChatGPT is coming soon to the Azure OpenAI Service, which is now generally available, as we help customers apply the world's most advanced AI models to their own business imperatives," Nadella tweeted on Tuesday.

Microsoft has allowed its cloud-computing users to preview tech by OpenAI. The company debuted the Azure OpenAI Service at the end of November 2021 to enable customers to tap into the power of large-scale generative Artificial Intelligence models. The application was able to gather its first million users in less than a week after it was introduced.
