While Akshay Kumar says that Kambakkht Ishq is unique, it is in fact just a remake of Kamal's Pammal K Sammbandam

Why is Akki not as generous as Kamal Haasan? For the promotion of the film Kambakkht Ishq, Akshay Kumar reportedly said that the 'battle of the sexes' angle has never been shown in Indian cinema. But it's sad that he is not aware that his film is a remake.

Didn't he know that producer Sajid Nadiadwala bought the rights of the Tamil film Pammal K Sammbandam? Sources say Sajid bought the rights by paying nearly Rs 80 lakh.

Or, does Akki believe that South Indian films are not a part of Indian cinema? Akshay, in fact, enjoyed success acting in regional hit movies, which were directed by Priyadarshan. The tag of comedy actor came to him only because of flicks like Hera Pheri, Phir Hera Pheri and Baagam Baag, which are all based on Malayalam hits.

So, why is the actor not acknowledging that Kambakkht Ishq is a remake?

Original? Akshay Kumar's latest flick is a remake

While Kamal Haasan has announced that he is remaking A Wednesday to mark 50 years of his film career, why isn't Akki also acknowledging that his film isu00a0 a remake? Bollywood has a wide audience. Geography helps them a lot. They can release across India and overseas also.

Remake it right

Akshay is a producer's actor. Over the last two years most of his movies have become commercial hits. When Chandini Chowk to China bombed at the box office, the actor was forced to hark back to the remake trend as it had guaranteed him success.

When doing a remake, the director has to be careful while adapting a story to a particular audience. For example, Ghajini was adapted from Christopher Nolan's Memento. When AR Murugadas made Ghajini with Surya in Tamil, many people felt it was not perfect and these glitches were corrected in the Hindi version, which went on to makeu00a0 record collections at the box office.

What went wrong?

Coming back to Kambakkht Ishq, the film is technically sound. Both Akki and Bebo have acted well. The producer's main goal is to reach out to the overseas market, and so they have indulged in gimmicks to say that it's a Hollywood quality movie. They shot in Hollywood studios, had special appearances by Denise Richards and Sylvester Stallone, and used stock shots of the Oscars, which showed Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis and others. This attempt to make a Hollywood-style movie has cost them a lot of money. Instead of this, they could have concentrated on the script. Anvita Dutt Guptan, Ishita Moitra and Sabbir Khan could have created a better background for the much hyped 'battle of the sexes'.

Sabbir Khan, in his blog,u00a0 writes, "People often say to aspiring directors, 'getting the right star cast for your film is half the battle won'."u00a0 Not true. The story is always the hero of the film. If that's weak, no film will become a hit.
