Malaka Spice is showcasing artist Vijay Shelwante's paintings which capture images of daily life in a seaside village

Soft browns and reds fill the canvas in artist Vijay Shelwante's creations. The imagery depicts scenes from village life. Shelwante's latest exhibition is titled Expressions and showcases creative landscapes and folk lifestyle with a lot of vibrancy. "I have tried to depict a village located near the seaside. I had gone on a holiday once to the Konkan area and that has inspired my paintings. Now, I visit this spot at least 2-3 times in a year," said Shelwante.

Some of his paintings include human figures and calligraphic strokes (mostly Devnagari letters), expressing the importance of literacy. He says his "style is semi-abstract and figurative" for he tries to fuse these two in his art. Vijay has an education in applied art from the Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya and has exhibited his artworks in various shows, including the one organised by the Nag Foundation.
