What happens when kathak and flamenco collide and collude? Dancers Akram Khan and Israel Galvan give you some answers

A warrior meets a monk

UK-based kathak and contemporary dancer Akram Khan collaborates with Israel Galvan, a flamenco dancer from Spain, for Torobaka which comes to Mumbai this week after first being performed at Seville last year.

Derived from the word ‘toro’ for bull and ‘vaca’ for cow, the dance is about a hunter, lost in the countryside, imitating the gait of the animal he has come to hunt. While Khan plays the warrior, Galvan plays the hunted.
Speaking to Sunday mid-day, the two share what the audience should watch out for in the 70-minute performance.

When: October 8, 7 PM
Where: Jamshed Bhabha Theatre, NCPA Marg, Nariman Point
