Enjoy delectable food and heady cocktails served in a charming ambiance at a recently opened roof-top bistro bar and restaurant at hotel T24 Residency

Food: Raise a toast at roof-top restaurant near T2

When we heard that the month-old hotel, T24 Residency, located strategically near the international airport, had opened a warm, cosy rooftop restaurant called Toast, we were curious about the space. On stepping in, at Toast, we liked what we saw. The bright, patch worked chairs with wooden and glass top tables, well-stocked bar with bulbs suspended from the ceiling, were inviting. The open-air space made for a perfect breakfast stop, to laze over a cuppa or a chilled out evening hangout to muse over a neon-lit city. However, the warehouse overkill could have been avoided, as the red brick interiors and slanting ladder book case are becoming predictable elements at new spaces in the city.

Lehsooni Chicken Tikka

The menu was a mix of Continental, Fusion and traditional desi dishes. We began with Crisp Fried Calamari (Rs 510) served with arugula and lemon aioli. Though priced steeply for the portion size, the dish was tasty. The Capriccio Bruschetta (Rs 395) was no different from what you will find in most other places. The Lehsooni Chicken Tikka (Rs 450) impressed us. The yoghurt and garlic marinated chicken with garam masala, cooked in tandoor was served on melt-in-mouth philo pastries.

While the Fettucini in Pesto Cream (Rs 510), cooked with genovese pesto, pine nuts and parmesan was nice and creamy, what surprised us was the Coffee and Chives Risotto (Rs 530). The mild coffee flavour in the otherwise creamy, warm risotto gave the dish a new high. Though a bit bland for the average Indian palate, this will impress those who like mild flavours. Of the continental variety, the Preserved Lemon Roast Chicken (Rs 650) served with herbed mash, steamed garden fresh vegetables and roast gravy, was cooked to perfection. The chef also did justice to the traditional desi fare. The Laal Maas (Rs 590), a Rajasthan specialty of baby lamb cooked with onion and mathania chillies, was delicious. It was served with a portion of steamed rice, yellow dal, naan, papad, salad and pickle.

There were a few interesting in-house concoctions that caught our fancy. For whiskey fans, there was T Sour (Rs 395), which was a (bourbon) twist to the classic Whiskey Sour. If you prefer a stiff drink, try the Macho Man, also bourbon- based (Rs 475).

Our pick was High on Chai (Rs 420), made with spiced tea, milk, honey, Bacardi and dark rum. This one was yumm. The Gin and Jam (Rs 420) made of blueberry jam, Gordons Dry Gin and lime soda was refreshing too. Candy Crush (Rs 475) brought back childhood memories as it uses crackling poppers instead of salt to line the rim of the martini glass.

The hotel will soon open its pool area for weekend brunches. Another reason for us to return.
