The lone change that we have noticed at the many sugarcane juice centres in the city is the increase in prices. In a refreshing departure, the owners of Mulund’s 45-year-old Shreenath Snacks and Juice Center, decided to get innovative, and introduced sugarcane milkshakes and blossoms to keep their patrons happy and hooked.
It was started by Waman Bhikoba Kamthe, and functioned as a typical sugarcane juice adda for decades. Three years back, they introduced snacks (Chinese, pav bhaji, dosas, sandwiches) on their menu. This also paved the way for more additions. “People would approach us for blossoms (juices blended with ice cream), even for a Mosambi juice.

So, we thought, why not whip up sugarcane juice in a different way?” reveals Kamthe’s son-in-law Arjun Gaikwad, who runs the eatery with his wife Sangeeta Gaikwad. This led to the introduction of Sugarcane Milkshake (sugarcane juice blended with flavoured elaichi milk) and Sugarcane Blossom ('35 each). If you have a sweet tooth, the milkshake is a must-try, where the natural sweetness of sugarcane makes for a delicious, frothy blend with flavoured milk.
