A new ice cream cafe in the hustling bustling hotspot of Andheri - JP Road tempted us to sample a variety of desserts. Smoothies, sundaes and crepes topped the charts enticing us to visit it once more
Late night and strolls always go hand in hand... as if the day has shed its pace and like a slow, sweet waltz the perfect excuse saunters off — ice creams. And so, we desperately tried to avert our eyes from the Naturals outlet, which was one shop away from our new spot. The moment we step in, a zesty red wall and a black-and-white group of friends-motif shot up the zing quotient. The modern, dynamic feel of the place didn’t rob us of that cosy comfort one yearns for in such spaces. We goggled with delight over waffles, smoothies, brownies, fondues and ice creams.

Scooping for the right choice from a menu with attractive pictures was daunting; we zeroed in on a Hazelnut Twist and an American Dazzler. The Dazzler ('99) was more of a healthy bug choice so we could indulge in a yoghurt-based black currant ice cream blended with cranberry juice. Frothy and light-as-a-feather, the smoothie ticked the mental countdown in our head anticipating our rather expensive ('229) sundae in earnest. Voilà! Popped up Ferrero Rochers, Oreo cookies and a chocolate dipped wafer beckoning us to dig in. While gorging on different shades of brown, two scoops of chocolate were offset by a moderately sweet vanilla scoop. As the sundae tempered into a mushy slush, apples chunks and banana slices emerged as a refreshing contrast.
Totally in the mood now, we ordered a Vanilla Bean Crepe, which was soon forgotten by the well-staffed service. After a few minutes, embarrassingly, we had to remind them as they promptly began fidgeting in the kitchen. A total value for money ('59) option, the honey-drizzled crepe is a perfect dessert for those who prefer a modest sating of their sweet tooth. Served with cream cheese and a fruit salad with diced apples and sliced bananas, our expectations took a dip. A good pick but not the one to dazzle.
Like an afterthought, we tried the Sugo Al Arrabiatta (sic) ('229) from the vegetarian options, as a midnight snack. Made in penne, it had a delectable combination of red and yellow pepper, green capsicum, zucchini and baby corn accompanied with appetising garlic bread. What burnt the case was that this popular Italian dish was midway too spicy, to be finished contentedly. Still, Dinshaw Xpress Cafe can count as the right place for the right…well, any time! Crave what you will — deliciously sweet, pleasantly savoury, tempting nibbles and oodles of sin; it’s your answer to all.
