Andheri's Tuk Tuk Thai Bistro whips up a flavourful and authentic joyride that does full justice to Thailand's diverse cuisines

Restaurant Review: Little gem in Andheri for Thai food lovers

Paad Makam Goong

Tuk Tuk Thai Bistro
Food: Good
Service: Quick
Ambiance: Cheerful

Nestled between tiny shops of Andheri's Adarsh Nagar, when we stepped into Tuk Tuk Thai Bistro, we noticed how the tiny space exuded vibrancy. Bright and colourful yet minimalist, with a few photo frames, Thai dolls and lights, it exuded a Thai vibe, instantly. Our initial guess when we checked out the prices and the menu online was that it would be one of those eateries that offered Indianised Thai and Chinese cuisines. Thankfully, as we discovered, we were proved wrong, and the restaurant emerged as little gem for Thai food lovers.

We were keen to begin our food trail with Cha Yen/Thai Ice Tea (Rs 180). The menu card claimed that after trying this creamy, milky, sweet version, one would never try any other kind of Ice tea! Sadly, this was unavailable on the day we dropped by. We opted for the Banana and Mango Float (Rs 180) instead, which was light and refreshing. From a tempting line-up of starters we chose the Paad Makam Goong/ Kaffir lime and tamarind prawns (Rs 350). The juicy, fried prawns in a tamarind sauce, tempered with lime, wowed us with its burst of flavours. An asterisk printed beside its dish name on the menu revealed, “Super recommended by Tuk Tuk”. The dish wowed us.

Massaman Curry with Jasmine rice

For the mains, we skipped the red, yellow, green Thai curries for the Massaman Curry, a Southern Thai curry, cooked in a coconut base with chicken, soft potatoes and peanuts (Rs 300), accompanied by Jasmine rice (R180). The fragrance of kaffir lime, lemongrass, coconut and mild jasmine made us hungrier than we already were. The curry was light while the slightly sticky jasmine rice tasted perfect. The vegetarian Pad Thai Stir Fried noodles (R220) were a tad too sweet for our liking. A spicier version would have earned it rave reviews.

Lemon- grass White Chocolate Mousse

By default, we ended up saving the best for last. The dessert chef wasn't in on the day we visited, so our options were limited. Both, the Lemongrass White Chocolate Mousse (Rs 220) and the Coconut Chocolate Mousse (R200) that we ordered, piqued our curious taste buds. The chilled Lemongrass White Chocolate Mousse was not two sweet while the Coconut Chocolate variety reminded us of Bounty chocolate bars that we devoured during lunch breaks in school. We strongly recommend that you do not skip dessert here.
