A track reconstruction machine derailed today morning near Airoli, as a result of which local train services on Trans-Harbour line came to a halt; services have resumed but are running behind schedule

A track reconstruction machine, which is used to improve the condition of tracks, derailed today morning near Airoli, as a result of which local train services on Trans-Harbour line came to a halt. Services have resumed after railway workers completed the repair job, but trains are running behind schedule.


The incident occured at around 4.50 am. Stations on the Trans-Harbour line were overcrowded. As there were no train services, commuters faced inconveince and were forced to travel by road.

Major traffic snarls were reported on the Thane-Belapur road. Overcrowding was observed in several state transport and city buses as office goers had no option to reach their destination.

Heavy traffic jam was also reported near Kalva creek bridge. Vehicles lined up traffic was heavily affected in the area near Thane Police Commissioner office and the Central Maidan region.

People were allowed to travel on harbour and main lines during this period. Meanwhile, buses from Thane CIDCO bus stand and Vandana Talkies bus stand are being run towards Vashi with the help of TMT buses.
