Online admissions have not only given nightmares to parents and students applying for first year junior college, but also to city college principals who have been scrutinising the admission forms sent by students with bizarre certificates.
Principals have been going through a trying time with students who have been submitting all kinds of certificates with their admission forms. Some have sent in science exhibition participation certificates and a student's fourth standard scholarship examination certificate also popped up.
U C Mashelkar, principal of S S & L S Patkar College, said, "I have to spend time from 9 am till 5 pm in the college scrutinising admission forms. They have been sent to Vidya Nidhi School in Juhu where parents whose kids have made mistakes in submitting wrong certificates are being corrected. Special reservation category applications have come in from other states when only those from Maharashtra can be accepted. It's not the students' fault, but that of the centers where they submitted their forms. Now these students will be sent to the open category."
Late starts to the semester were also a matter of concern to principals. Rizvi College principal Zaidi said, "The online admission process has created chaos and delays in studies. Colleges that start by July 15 will now start on August 2, I guess. We will have to adjust our exams now, even if we will have to drop one."
