The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) of pro-Telangana forces on Saturday called for a day-long rail blockade across Andhra Pradesh's Telangana region on July 14 to press the demand for a separate Telangana state. Government employees in the region will also be going on an indefinite strike from August 1.
The committee announced that 'vanta varpu' or protest through cooking on roads will be held in nine districts on July 12. Previously, the JAC had proposed a two-day rail blockade on July 8 and 9 but postponed the programme to involve the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and other parties for a joint agitation.
But when no positive response from the Congress and TDP was forthcoming, the JAC went ahead with the decision to announce the July 14 rail blockade.
