It took a team of seven cops to track down a 23-year-old woman, who cheated a 17-year-old girl of 80 gm gold in Diva under the pretext of providing her computer classes at cheaper rates

A team of seven policemen from Chunabhatti police station, checked at least 1,100 flats to trace a lady accused who allegedly duped a 17-year-old student on the pretext of providing her computer classes at cheaper rates. Working on a tip-off that the accused, identified as Apeksha Pawar (23), was last seen in Mumbradevi colony at Diva, the cops began their search across 18 buildings.

Police Sub-Inspector Sumeet Pardeshi from Chunabhatti police station said, “The case was registered on April 25, after Pawar duped Heena Momeem of 80 gram gold. The accused claimed that she had spoken to her mother and asked her to come with gold ornaments.”
Later Momeen accompanied Pawar to a jeweller to weigh the jewellery after which it would be kept as mortgage with the classes in order to get the discount. Pawar excused herself on the pretext of meeting a friend and fled with the jewellery.
Pardeshi further added, “The accused never returned and her phone was switched off. A complaint under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property) was registered.”
According to Sub Inspector Anand Bagade, “We checked 18 apartments which had 1,100 flats. The accused who was hiding at her relative’s residence at one Alankar apartment.” Three cheating cases have been registered at Govandi and Ghatkopar police station against the accused in the past.
