The number of deaths dropped marginally in the city and the state. Mumbai registered three deaths whereas the state reported 15 deaths on Monday due to COVID-19. These are the lowest numbers since last April. The number of new cases is also on the lower side, however, this is  probably due to less tests conducted on weekends.

The city reported 399 fresh cases on Monday, after conducting 8,899 tests on Sunday. There were an average of 16,000 tests in the first six days. As the tests were on the lower side, the new cases also declined. But the silver lining is the lowest number of deaths recorded since April, the beginning of COVID-19 in India. Of the city’s three deaths, all had co-morbidities and were above the age of 60.

At least 502 patients have recovered and there are 5,335 active patients in the city. The growth rate of cases is 0.12 per cent in the first week of February and the doubling rate of the city reached 574 days.

The state recorded 2,216 patients, out of which 705 were reported in the MMR including Mumbai. All the other cities in MMR reported less than 100 patients each. There were two deaths reported in Mira-Bhayandar. Pune circle registered 442 and Nagpur registered 327 cases. Out of 15 deaths, five were reported in MMR (including Mumbai) and six in Akola.

The cumulative number of cases in the state is 20.42 lakh and the recovery rate of the state has stabilised at 95.7 per cent. At least 3,423 patients recovered and active patients have reduced to 34,000 in the state. Out of total active patients, 12,000 are in MMR.
