Mumbai has till now recorded 5,01,182 cases and 11,916 deaths, recovery rate reduced

Mumbai for the second consecutive day recorded fewer than 10,000 cases on Friday, but fresh fatalities jumped to 35 from 25 a day before. The state-wide daily tally, however, continued the upward trend with 58,933 new cases.

On the other hand, the situation is getting worse for the Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation (VVCMC) as an acute shortage of oxygen cylinders and Remdesevir vials are forcing hospitals in the area to turn away critically ill COVID patients. Friday’s additions took Maharashtra’s total count to 32.88 lakh cases and 57,329 deaths. Of the fresh COVID-19 casualties recorded on Friday, 52 were from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), including 35 from Mumbai. Civic officials said that 28 of the 35 deceased patients were suffering from other ailments and 23 of them were senior citizens.
The MMR reported 18,408 cases on Friday, including 9,202 in Mumbai, 1,857 in Thane Municipal Corporation, 1,202 in Navi Mumbai and 2,159 in Kalyan-Dombivli Corporation. The recovery rate in the state further dropped to 81.96 per cent, with 45,391 patients being discharged in a day. The state currently has 5,34,603 active cases, including 90,333 in the city. The recovery rate in Mumbai, too, dropped and stood at 79 per cent on Friday. The doubling rate reduced further to 34 days.
The overall growth rate of cases in the city has been increasing rapidly over the past one week, and was 2 per cent on Friday. Mumbai has till now recorded 5,01,182 cases and 11,916 deaths. The mortality rate in the state, which has a total of 57,329 deaths, remained steady around 1.74 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,460 so far. These include patients who died of other complications after recovering from COVID-19. Across the state, over 2.16 crore laboratory samples, including 45.09 lakh in Mumbai, were collected for test till date, and 32.88 lakh of them came back positive. The state’s positivity ratio was at 15.2 per cent.
