After recording Covid-19 fatalities in double digit since Saturday, Mumbai saw a drop in the figure on Tuesday. As per the BMC’s report, the city registered seven new fatalities, and saw a marginal rise in cases and the test positivity rate (TPR), at 6,149 and 12.89 per cent, respectively.


The BMC confirmed 6,149 new cases and reported a TPR of 12.89 per cent on Tuesday. Around 84 per cent of the people turning positive on Tuesday were asymptomatic, and 575 patients were hospitalised and 95 of them are in the ICU.


Of the seven deceased, six had comorbidities. Two patients were in the age group of 40-59 years and five were senior citizens. Both the recovery rate and the doubling rate improved to 94 per cent and 61 days, respectively. A total of 12,810 patients were discharged on Tuesday.

Maharashtra saw a rise in the daily Covid-19 infections and the number of deaths doubled on Tuesday. The health department added 39,204 new cases and 53 deaths, up from 24 on Monday, in the state’s official tally. The state’s case fatality rate continued to dip and was at 1.94 per cent. A total of 38,824 people were discharged, leaving 2,67,659 active cases across the state.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 13,053 cases. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 1,231 cases, Navi Mumbai 1,290, Panvel 1,123, Vasai-Virar 446 and Thane city 522. Besides the seven deaths in Mumbai, the MMR reported 10 more fatalities, including five were reported in Kalyan-Dombivili and 4 in Vasai-Virar. 

On Sunday, 122 new Omicron infections were reported in the state of which four were from Mumbai. So far, 1,860 cases of Omicron have been registered across the state and 959 patients have been discharged.
