The city-based diamond exchange on Friday, after a meeting with the chief minister, decided to make stay as well as quarantine arrangements for its employees at the BKC office. The decision was made after the CM suggested creating an environment to save both the business and the lives of people amid the pandemic.

Bharat Diamond Bourse’s (BDB) former president and committee member Kirit Bhansali and other representatives held a virtual meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, State Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, and other government officials on Friday evening. The government is trying to figure out ways to save businesses amid the second lockdown. Bharat Diamond Bourse has been doing business with only 10 per cent to 20 per cent staff capacity.

“The CM told us that the government understands the traders’ condition, but they also have to save people’s lives. To save both, they suggested that we create both stay and quarantine accommodation for our employees. Thackeray and Kunte told us that we have to follow all standard operating procedures and COVID-19 protocols. We told the government that we are ready to conduct business by following all the instructions,” Bhansali said.

“We have a facility in our bourse where around 2,000 employees can stay. We can also make a quarantine centre in case someone gets infected. If we need any other facilities, we can arrange that as well to save our employees from this deadly virus.” BDB, the world’s largest diamond bourse, is spread over 20 acres at Bandra Kurla Complex.
