Mumbai: Covid-19 cases see a drop but fatalities stay the same

After constantly having test positivity rate (TPR) above 1, Mumbai’s TPR dipped below 1 on Tuesday. The last time such a TPR was registered was on October 2 at 0.98%. On Tuesday, the city’s TPR was 0.90%. The city’s new cases saw a drop while the Covid-19 fatalities remained the same as Monday. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 313 new cases were reported on Tuesday.


Three of the deceased had comorbidities. While one of the deceased was in the age group of 40-60 years, the other three were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate significantly improved to 1,280 days on Tuesday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 511 people recovered and were discharged on Tuesday.


In the state, the new cases saw a significant rise, but remained below 2,000. There was also a significant rise in Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state health department report, 1,638 cases were reported along with 49 deaths across the state. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 2,791 people recovered and got discharged on Tuesday. Currently the state has 26,805 active cases.


The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal drop in new cases. As per the state report, 615 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai. 

Apart from Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR with 62 new cases. It was followed by Thane Municipal Corporation with 49 cases. While Navi Mumbai saw 45 cases each, Raigad had 21 cases, Vasai-Virar witnessed 25 cases. 

MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered six deaths. While Thane Municipal Corporation and Panvel registered two deaths each, Kalyan-Dombivli and Bhiwandi saw one death each.
