Mumbai Covid-19 figures drop to 660 new cases, 22 deaths

After recording the lowest daily cases in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in numbers earlier last week, but they have remained below 1,000. The TPR dropped below 3 per cent on June 6 and the daily death toll dropped to single digit on June 8, both for the first time in the second wave. However, the fatalities rose again.

Mumbai saw a significant fall in both Covid-19 figures on Thursday, with the BMC confirming 660 more infections and 22 deaths. The test positivity rate (TPR) also dropped and was recorded at 2.59 per cent. The doubling rate of Covid-19 infections improved further and stood at 566 days.


After recording the lowest daily cases in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in numbers earlier last week, but they have remained below 1,000. The TPR dropped below 3 per cent on June 6 and the daily death toll dropped to single digit on June 8, both for the first time in the second wave. However, the fatalities rose again. 


Of the 22 newly confirmed fatalities on Thursday, 18 patients had comorbidities, three were in the 40-59 years age group and 19 were senior citizens. The recovery rate continued to be at 95 per cent in the city, which saw 768 people return to their homes after recovery on Thursday. 
The daily cases rose significantly across the state. According to the state health department report, Maharashtra reported 12,207 new cases, and 393 deaths which reduced marginally.


The case fatality rate in the state has been rising steadily and was 1.77 per cent. After 11,449 patients were discharged on Thursday, the state had nearly 1.60 lakh active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal drop in new cases at 2,058 cases, including the ones reported in the city. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar and Raigad reported the maximum number of new cases in the MMR, at 188 and 492, respectively.

Thane reported 105  new cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 154 and Navi Mumbai 63. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 123 Covid-19 fatalities, with 33 in Mira-Bhayandar and 61 in Raigad. Palghar registered 12 deaths and Kalyan-Dombivli four.

1,953 in 18-44 group take 2nd dose

A total of 69,713 vaccine doses were administered across centres in Mumbai on Thursday, and 54,633 of them were given at private centres and 13,854 at civic-run facilities. Among the recipients at private centres were 3,710 senior citizens and 11,225 people in the 45-59 years age group. At civic-run centres, 1,953 people in the 18-44 years age group took their second dose, along with 4,679 senior citizens and 11 lactating mothers.
