Mumbai: No. of Covid-19 deaths in city jumps from 0 to 4 in 24 hours

After zero deaths on Sunday, Mumbai saw a rise in the daily toll to four 24 hours later. According to the BMC’s report, the city registered 373 new cases on Monday, a marginal rise from 367 on Sunday. The state, however, registered a significant drop in daily cases to 1,485 from 1,715 the day before. 


The test positivity rate (TPR), however, dipped to 1.23 per cent from 1.27 per cent.


All of the four patients whose deaths due to COVID-19 were confirmed on Monday had comorbidities. While one patient was aged between 40 and 59 years, the other three were senior citizens.

The doubling rate of COVID-19 infections in the city has improved significantly, and was 1,253 days on Monday. The city’s recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, after 543 more people were discharged.

The state-wide tally of daily infections dropped significantly, and the number of COVID-19 fatalities declined, too, but marginally. According to the state health department’s report, officials confirmed 1,485 new cases and 27 deaths on Monday.

The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent. 

A total of 2,078 people recovered and were discharged on Monday. Currently, the state has 28,008 active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also registered a drop in new cases to 691, including the ones reported in Mumbai. 

With 51 cases, the Thane Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily tally in the MMR, after Mumbai. Panvel reported 50 cases, Navi Mumbai 44, Raigad 26 and Vasai-Virar 38. In the MMR, barring Mumbai, Mira-Bhayandar and Thane reported one death each.
