Says Dr Anil Kohli, Dental Council chief, reacting to allegations of corruption

A day after MiD DAY published the report about the president of Dental Council of India (DCI), Dr Anil Kohli, to have allegedly amassed unaccounted money as a senior functionary, has denied all claims.

"SMZ Imam has a college at Darbhanga in Bihar from last 16 years, which has failed to fulfill the requirement led by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and after thorough examination not once but twice by the inspectors, the photographs are with the DCI, its application were rejected," Dr Kohli told MiD DAY.

The doctor also mentioned about a member of the DCI who according to him is setting personal score against him. "One of the DCI members from Delhi, who was a visiting faculty in Darbhanga, is spreading wrong information. The member is a central government nominee and his case regarding his DCI membership is pending in Cochin court. He is a visiting faculty at Harcharan Das Dental College even today."

Regarding the huge amount of transactions made through his accounts, the doctor commented that he has a successful medical practice and keeps proper records of his earnings as well as expenditures. "All my bank accounts have been audited and assessments have been done by appropriate bodies including the Income Tax department. The income tax returns filed by me have been given a clean chit by the department too," clarified Dr Kohli.

The doctor further added that Imam's college is not the only case that was rejected.
"This year not even a single college has been given a permit as they failed to fulfill the requirements according to the Dentist Act. Only a few cases of government colleges have been sent for reconsideration."
Dr Kohli pointed out that several MPs have also rubbished charges against him.
