'It was Naveena who wanted to marry me'

Before being sent to judicial custody yesterday, advocate SL Rajappa claimed before the court that it was her who had first proposed marriage and not otherwise

"Naveena had proposed the marriage. At first I didn't agree because of my humble background, but later we fell in love. We were in a live-in relationship,"u00a0 Rajappa said in court.

SL Rajappa had murdered Naveena on July 8, in the corridors of the Karnataka High Court, for allegedly turning down his proposal.u00a0 He later tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat and consuming poison.

He added, "I even spent Rs 60,000 when her brother had met with an accident and was admitted at the Abhaya Hospital in Wilson Garden in April.

I took this extreme step because Naveena rejected my proposal saying that her parents disapproved of me, and started an affair with another senior advocate."

Conditional normal

Vidhan Soudha Inspector Ashok said, "He was discharged from the hospital, and brought to the station. We completed the formalities andu00a0 produced him before the magistrate."

His condition is normal now, and a fitness certificate was issued by the hospital. A hospital source said, "His right leg is swollen. The treatment will be continued, and he is advised to undergo physiotherapy.

Since he was on bed rest for the past two months, there was no physical exercise, and hence he has trouble walking. But he will be relieved in a couple of days."
