However, the alert woman, in trying to save herself, sustained burns on her legs.
The victim, Bharati, heard someone calling out to her, while she was home. She opened the door, and found an unidentified youth aged around 25 years standing outside.

Without warning, he pulled out a bottle from his pocket and splashed the contents on her. Bharathi immediately pulled herself back and ran inside, closing the door behind her.
In the melee, some of the acid fell on her legs.
She later called her husband Manohar M who runs a readymade garments shop in Malleshrawam. Manohar rushed back home and took Bharathi to KC General Hospital for treatment.
Manohar told the police that neither he, or Bharathi knew the attacker, nor do they have any enemies.
SMS a warning?
Upon enquiry it was revealed that Manohar's daughter Deepa, who is a college student, had got an SMS on her cell phone stating, "Get ready for first sample yahoo."u00a0
The cops suspect that the SMS may haveu00a0 some link to the attack.
"We have obtained the mobile number from which Deepa received the SMS. We are trying our best to track down theu00a0 sender's address," an official from the Sadashiva Nagar police station told MiD DAY.
