In what can be called another dowry-related killing, a dermatologist allegedly killed his 23-year-old wife, and fled the scene.

The incident that happened late onu00a0 Saturday evening, came to light yesterday night around 8.30 pm in Jeevanbimanagar police station limits.

B Devaraj (35), a dermatologist, allegedly murdered his wife B Lakshmi at his sister's house in HAL II Stage (Indiranagar).

Lakshmi got married to Devaraj, a Mysore resident, eight months ago in November 2009. Lakshmi's parents allege that Devaraj was an alcoholic, and used to routinely beat up Lakshmi.

"I had given Rs 60 lakh, 1.5-kg gold, a flat in Malleswaram (worth Rs 2.5 crore) at the time of the wedding. I still lost my only daughter," said a sobbing Beerappa, Lakshmi's father.

"Devaraj had recently taken Rs 50,000 to put up a solar heating system from us, and had asked for Rs 2 lakh. Even his parents used to torture Lakshmi," Lakshmi's uncle Bharat Raj told MID DAY.

"Lakshmi was forcefully brought to Bangalore on Saturday, on the pretext of a naming ceremony. My daughter was appearing for her final year BSc exams this week.

This was a well-planned murder," alleged Beerappa.

Lakshmi has spoken to her father at around 4.30 pm, and had said that she wanted to discuss a few important things. This was the last time she spoke to them, after which, the phone became unreachable.

"I had told my daughter that I would be registering a house worth Rs 80 lakh, in Mysore's Kuvempunagar in her name. But Devaraj wanted even that house for himself, and started torturing my daughter more," said Beerappa.

Devaraj left the keys with his sister's landlords in Indiranagar, after allegedly killing Lakshmi and escaped. The murder came to light only when his brother-in-law came and opened the door yesterday night.

He later lodged a complaint with the Jeevanbimanagar police station, who are investigating the case.
