Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal says other metros have bigger pothole problems than city

Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal feels the issue of potholes in the city has been politicised and wrongly represented before the public.

"I have travelled and visited many cities and I can say we are taking much care to prevent and repair potholes this monsoon. A few potholes on the road will develop, but we shall repair these," said Rajpal. "The way the issue has been projected, it seems there are many potholes on city roads, which is not factually correct. The number of potholes in the city is low."

Residents of the city do not agree with the Mayor.

"New potholes are seen on roads every day," said Ram Kamble, as he walked down a road in Rasta Peth. "How come the Mayor does not see the potholes in Rasta Peth, where he lives?"

Potholes can be seen in the city on all important roads. Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Shashtri Road, Bajirao Road, Shankarsheth Road and Karve road, all have potholes.

"Potholes are a major problem at Paud road and we have to dodge them," said Vikas Mahajan, an engineering student.

Leader of the opposition Mukta Tilak said, "Mayor is making a misleading statement. We agree that there may have been a marginal reduction in potholes on the roads compared to the last three years, but the present number is still significantly high."

Vikas Mathkari, BJP corporator, said, "There is an improvement in the Mayor's statement, as earlier he was saying there is not a single pothole on city roads."
