Rudy Wallang and Tipriti 'Tips' Kharbangar make Soulmate, NE India's most popular blues band. Soulmate was formed way back in 2003 and six years down the lane; they are still going strong with more than 500 performances and counting.u00a0

Why Soulmate, you ask? Well, the name comes from one of their songs titled Blues is my Soulmate and it just clicked. They decided to stick with that name and the rest is history.u00a0

Rudy has been on the music scene for more than 27 years and he met Tipriti when one day, "Tipriti came by to record a gospel album and we bonded well." They later decided to form a band and Soulmate was born.

With two albums to their credit, the duo plan to enthrall audiences in the city with popular numbers from their repertoire and also perform a few covers as well.u00a0

"It would not be right for us to play the blues without paying tribute to some of the greats who inspired us," Rudy says, referring to BB King, Koko Taylor, and Albert Collins.u00a0

Soulmate is definitely not new to Bangalore and they've performed earlier and have a huge fan base in town. "It was a really good experience last time and we enjoyed the audience, so were looking forward to this year's performance too," Rudy says.u00a0

Soulmate has the honor of being the only Indian band to have performed at the prestigious 23 International Blues Challenge of the Blues foundation of America in 2007. "We were rookies then and we somehow managed to surprise everyone," he reminisces adding, "it was more about taking part in the event, rather than competing in it."u00a0

"You can't fake the blues, you can't fake playing it or enjoying it and that's what makes it so cool," Rudy says adding, that "it's all about being honest when the music is concerned."
