The family alleges he was neglected at Sassoon hospital even though he was a paraplegic. Patole was a labourer and fell down from the staircase near his home on Febaruary 6. He received primary treatment from the local civil hospital. The doctors referred Patole to Sassoon hospital when they suspected that he had developed a spinal cord problem. Patole and his family arrived at Sassoon on Tuesday evening.u00a0 The family members allege medical negligence on the part of the hospital authorities. "Our toughest time began at Sassoon, when there was nobody to treat my husband till 2 am the next day. We did not get a trolley or a stretcher and my husband was in unbearable pain," said Hausabai. According to Patole's cousin Ramesh, there was nobody to attend Patole because the doctors were busy in the operation theatre. After taking X-rays, the patient was given a neck belt and some tablets. The family was later asked to leave the hospital as there were no beds, said Ramesh. Samvel Patole, the nephew of the patient said, "We had came from Ahmadnagar and they were asking us to leave the hospital as if he did not have any serious problem. He was virtually dumped at an open space near OPD," he said. Mithu Patole, another nephew, pointed that his uncle was not even given saline or any basic treatment. "He was conscious and kept asking for help as he was in pain," he said. Patole breathed his last at 5 pm on the ground at the Sasoon's main building premises. Patole was declared dead even before the admission at Sassoon hospital at 11 am on Wednesday which was stated in the inquest panchanama by the Bund Garden Police. Police Constable Subhash Wani, who conducted the Panchanama said that the post mortem was completed by 12.30 pm and the viscera has been kept aside for further investigations.
