The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) busted a racket and seized 3,200 kg of adulterated khoya worth Rs 3.07 lakh. It had been transported to the city in four private luxury buses. In the past week, FDA officials have seized large consignments of khoya in several parts of the state.
Based on a tip-off received from their informers officials on Wednesday morning raided the buses at three different spots in the city. Mohan Kembalkar, food inspector and supervisor (food), said, "Three hundred kilos of khoya worth
Rs 30,000 was seized from the KB Agarwal Budhwar Peth shop owned by Rajesh Lekhraj Agarwal. We also seized 750 kg of khoya worth Rs 97,400 from the shop owned by Mangilal Chimnaji Chaudhariu00a0 in Vishrantwadi."
Assistant Commissioner of Food C Salunke said, "We feel that khoya has been made with some additives that can prove hazardous to health. We have sent the samples for testing."
