Insurance agent, factory owner and clerk conned man of Rs 40 lakh

An insurance agent, the owner of a small-scale engineering unit and a clerk of a revenue department cheated a businessman of Rs 40 lakh.

Sundar Bhat, the owner,u00a0 had suffered financial loss and decided on the con game. He looked for property on sale in the newspapersu00a0 and found one. He then went in search of the owner, Venkataraju.

Posing as a prospective buyer, he took duplicate copies of the property documents, PAN card and driver's licence.

He then met his friend Muralidhar, the insurance agent, and told him of his plans.

Muralidhar and his wife posed as Mr and Mrs Venkataraju and opened a bank account at Union Bank of India, Malleswaram.

They then created a forged sale deed with the help of Vidyalatha, a clerk at the Ganganagar sub- registrar's office, promising her a share in the booty.

Bad move

Muralidhar and Bhat then sold Venkataraju's property to businessman Ranganath Naik.

Ranganath got a home loan of Rs 40 lakh from ING Vysya. However, the fraud came to light when the bank sent a team to evaluate the property.

Raganath filed a complaint with J P Nagar police who arrested the three.
