4 accidents across Mumbai leave 8 injured

It seemed to be a day of mishaps, as four accidents across the city left four persons seriously injured and eight with minor bruises. The accidents happened at Mahim, Dahisar, Vikhroli (Eastern Express Highway) and Haji Ali.

A tempo rammed into an auto rickshaw an Indica and a taxi leaving two persons injured yesterday afternoon. Tempo driver Sagar Harpude (21), allegedly jumped the traffic signal at Godrej Junction on the Eastern Express Highway at Vikhroli (East) leading to the accident.


“The tempo jumped the signal, rammed into a moving auto rickshaw and collided with a taxi and an Indica car. The vehicles were damaged, but the occupants had a narrow escape,” said M Indalkar, senior PI of the Vikhroli police station.

Taxi driver Rajaram Gupta (63), was heading towards Godrej Memorial Hospital from Powai with his daughter Aarti and seven-month-old grandson when the accident happened. “I stopped my taxi at the signal and was waiting to turn right, when the tempo rammed into the divider and hit my taxi,” said Rajaram.

Zahid and her child were seated in passenger seat and escaped injury, but Rajaram got minor injuries to his hands and legs and was treated at Godrej Memorial Hospital.

Indalkar added that the tempo driver was not drunk at the time, and claims to have lost control of the vehicle. The Indica left the spot minutes after the incident. Harpude was arrested for negligent driving.

Dahisar drama
An Innova belonging to the BMC’s water department rammed into three pedestrians near Kajupada at Dahisar leaving one person with head injuries. According to the police, driver Suryakant Ahwad (45), was not drunk at the time. He was arrested and sent for medical examination.

Rupa Prajapati (22), is admitted in Bhagwati Hospital at Borivali. A woman and child pedestrian sustained minor bruises and are stable. “Prajapati is in the trauma intensive care unit and is under observation. Her CT scan and sonography reports are normal and she is stable at the moment,” said Dr S Gawde, medical superintendent at BMC-run Bhagwati Hospital.

Haji Ali skid
The driver of an SUV lost control and collided with six parked cars at around 2 pm near Lala Lajpatrai College. The SUV driver only identified as Sudhir (23), and pedestrian Zorabia Sheikh sustained injuries in the accident and both have been admitted in the trauma ward of Nair hospital.

A doctor said on condition of anonymity, “Sheikh’s condition is stable, but she has fractured her left femur and nasal bone. We are still examining her for internal injuries.”u00a0
