A septuagenarian was killed on the spot after being crushed by a tanker on the Mumbai-Pune highway at Turbhe on Monday.

The tragic incident occurred at around 12 pm on Monday while Parmeshwar Palghar Lakshminarayan Iyer was walking along the service road. He was killed on the spot.
Iyer, an Andheri resident of Andheri is the Managing Director of Realfast Cargo Express Pvt. Ltd., and had come to Navi Mumbai for work. Eyewitnesses told the police that the tanker was taking a turn to get onto the Highway near a Petrol Pump when it ran over Iyer.
Officers from the APMC police station rushed to the spot and transferred Iyer’s body to Vashi’s NMMC Hospital for a post mortem.
PSI Gajanand Padalkar, the investigation officer said, “The accused abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, investigations are in progress to find the accused and as of now, a case has been registered with the APMC police station under Section 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 187 of the Motor Vehicle Act.”
