has gone into hiding after a routine audit at the police station revealed he was responsible for missing jewellery worth several lakhs.
During preliminary investigations, cops found Head Constable Virender Singh, who was responsible for the safety of the valuables in the malkhana, had been transferred to the Okhla police station two weeks ago. In charge of the malkhana, he was posted at the Lajpat Nagar police station for about two-and-a-half years.
"We called him to check about the missing valuables. However, after that he has been absconding. His mobile phone has been switched off and we are not being able to trace him," said a senior police official from the Lajpat Nagar police station, refusing to divulge further details.
The police have registered a case under Section 409 (Criminal Breach of Trust) at the Lajpat Nagar police station against the absconding official. "A manhunt has been launched to arrest him. After interrogating him we
will add more sections if required. The involvement of others can also not be denied," said the police
official.
