The national carrier transfers 18 officials, post HC order to de-seal employee association offices
Air India is trying to go corporate and it would not like to see the trade unions strengthening or worse its own officials warming up to the worker leaders.

In a strategic move, the national carrier has transferred 18 top officials in the ranks of general manager and executive director across India in the wake of the Delhi High Court order directing Air India to de-seal the offices of the trade unions.
The offices were sealed following the strike by the unions in May.
According to sources, among the transferred officials 14 are of the rank of general mangers while four are executive directors.
The transfer orders issued on Tuesday took the senior officials by surprise. "I came to know about the order when we reached office on Tuesday. We did not have any prior information or even an inkling of what was coming our way. It's clear that the decision has been done in haste. It is one of the biggest transfer orders in recent times," said a senior official, who has been transferred out of Delhi.
Official sources told MiD DAY that the officers have been transfer randomly. "The top management wanted to render the unions weak. Some of these officers are reportedly close to the union leaders in their respective areas. But it hardly matters who is holding the key post. It is not going to affect the working of unions," said a union leader affiliated with Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU).

The Delhi High Court on Monday directed Air India to unlock the offices of the employees union, which were sealed following a flash strike by the workers a month ago. The flash strike was called on May 25 barely three days after the Air India Express flight crashed in Mangalore killing 160 people on May 22. However, the union leaders of striking 15,000 employees have argued that they have been asked not to talk to the media and employees are not getting wages. The employees union had been widely condemned for the timings of their strike as the country saw biggest air crash in recent times. |
