Did Madhuri Gupta sense trouble several months ago?
u00a0The disgraced Indian diplomat wanted to get out of the mess she had got into. During the interrogation Madhuri confessed that she had sensed trouble several months ago after which she had applied to the External Affairs Ministry to send her back home or outside on another posting.
"She said her family members had seen movement outside her residence and also received anonymous phone calls," highly-placed sources in the Special Cell of the Delhi Police said.
She claimed to have suspected that the she was on the radar of intelligence agencies. She said that she had stopped being in touch with her counterparts, even her close friends during the last three months. However, when she was called back on the pretext for preparations to the SAARC Summit, she had no idea that she would be arrested, the sources said.
A team of Special Cell, Intelligence Bureau and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) are interrogating Gupta, who was caught for supplying strategic data to the Pakistan's ISI.
Gupta was posted at the Indian High Commission and she had been on the radar of the intelligence agencies for a couple of months. She had been once caught trying to access sensitive data at the Ministry of External Affairs.
Sources also said that nothing substantial had come out of the probe into the e-mail account of the diplomat. "Prima facie it looks that she has not shared much vital information with any one through her e-mail. We are still interrogating her to ascertain the damage she has done or could have done," they said.
Meanwhile, the security agencies also interrogated Dr Khem Raj Sharma and his wife Dr Champa Sharma at Sunderbani in Rajouri district of Jammu last night. Champa Sharma is believed to have told interrogators that Gupta had visited her residence in Sunderbani on March 29 for a day.
