Decision on his bail plea reserved till Tuesday

Sent to jail for alleged involvement in the cash-for-votes scandal during the July 2008 trust vote in Parliament, a city court reserved its order on the interim bail plea of Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh. The court will decide on the plea on Tuesday. The MP has sought it in view of his "deteriorating" health.

Earlier, BJP MP Ram Jethmalani shocked everyone when he claimed the money produced in the Lok Sabha during the scam was "likely to be from the BJP". The senior advocate told Special Judge Sehgal that Sanjeev Saxena, co-accused in the scam, in his bail application, had said he received the money from the BJP treasurer.

Pressing for interim bail, Jethmalani said, "Singh has undergone kidney transplant and is also suffering from urinary tract infection now," he submitted. Earlier, Tihar Jail authorities had made it clear before the court that Singh was kept in a separate cell under hygienic conditions in the prison.

On 'cure' street
Meanwhile, Amar has been admitted to Nephrology department of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. According to sources, Singh's blood test for kidney transplant had some problems, due to which he was taken to the hospital. "We did not want to take any risk. It is just a routine check up for all the other tests," said one of the police officials.
