We all know the truth, aggression and false misgivings hidden behind the 'Black and White' factor! The oppression of the blacks, the dominance of the whites, the street killings and the innumerable genocides, all over a simple issue like skin colour.
American History X, an Academy Award nominated movie, digs deeper into this dark side of our ignorance.
Derek Vinyard (Edward Norton) is a former neo-Nazi, whose father is killed in the line of duty. Derek grows up hating Blacks, blaming them for all the wrong things in his life and the world. His brother Danny (Edward Furlong) is also influenced by his brother's ideology. Derek gets himself locked in prison for a brutal assault on a black man. He meets a black American in the prison, and the two become friends. Derek realises that he has been wrong, causing serious damages to people in the name of racism. He accepts the fact that racism is just a false belief of a disturbed mind, and that there is good and bad in every race.
When Derek comes reformed out of prison, he is shocked to find his brother Danny, turned into a neo-Nazi himself. Derek tries hard to wash off the stains that he has left behind in his younger brother's mind, but the disease seems to have affected Danny beyond help. His efforts go unheard, and misfortune befalls his family ending in a tragic death of his younger brother, who is shot dead by Afro-Americans.
The movie portrays raw aggression, hatred, and violence on the streets. Edward Norton puts up a brilliant performance. The movie throws light on the prejudices that people hold on to, the brutal world of racism, its unforgiving attitude and its far-reaching negative influences on younger generations.u00a0
