Industrialist visits jail to meet his executives

This corporate meeting did not require a boardroom. Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani on Wednesday drove to Tihar Jail has apparently assured legal help to his two top executives who are in judicial custody in connection with their alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, sources said. The industrialist spent nearly half an hour in Jail No. 3 where Gautam Doshi and Hari Nair have been lodged since April 17 after their bail plea was rejected by a special CBI court.

Sources said during the meeting Ambani reportedly assured the officials that he will try his best to get them all possible legal help to come clean on the allegations of corruption. Three top officials of Reliance ADA Group - Doshi (the company's Managing Director), Surendra Pipara and Nair have been accused of conspiracy and abetment to cheating in the 2G scam.

"Ambani was here at five in the evening. He had asked for permission to meet Doshi and Nair, two of his company executives now lodged with us and we gave him a go ahead," Neeraj Kumar, DG Tihar Prisons, said. "He could not meet Pipara as he is now undergoing treatment at AIIMS," Kumar said. Sources said that after meeting the two executives Ambani went to AIIMS to meet Pipara. The three officials have spent 55 days in jail.

"Surendra Pipara is undergoing treatment for heart ailment at AIIMS. It is almost over one month that he is admitted at the department of cardiology at AIIMS," Kumar said.
