Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare, who was admitted to Medanta Medcity hospital after he ended his 12-day fast on Sunday, is stable, said doctors on Monday.

"Nobody knows when he will be discharged. His condition is being monitored constantly. Usually, it takes 2-3 days to get normal after such a long fast. When his body starts tolerating and digesting food then he can go," said Dr Naresh Trehan, chairman, Medanta Medcity, who was also monitoring Hazare's health during his fast-unto-death.

The 74-year-old activist declined all requests to meet him because he is "still very weak", Trehan said, adding various tests have established that the activist's liver and kidneys were functioning normally.

The doctor said it was important to increase his diet gradually. "His blood pressure is 130/84 and heartbeat is below 80. This is good progress in the right direction," said Dr Trehan. "His weight was falling at the rate of 500 g (per day) during the fast but it fell only 200 g yesterday," he added.
