Confirming the news, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Sudhir Hiremath said, "The parcel was received at Ranade Institute on Saturday itself when FTII received it. But the department was closed and it was only on Monday afternoon when the department in-charge inspected the letters and found the threat mail. It seems that the letter and parcel were sent to both the institutes on the same day. The threat letter strictly warned the institute against inviting Jawarharlal Nehru University (JNU) student president Kanhaiya Kumar. A team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Solution (BDDS) rushed to the spot and explosive powder and detonator has been found."
On Saturday, the FTII campus was aghast after the director of the insitute received a parcel containing a detonator and explosive powder with a letter threatening JNU student's union president Kanhaiaya Kumar not to be invited. The Deccan Gymkhana police have registered a case against unidentified persons and probing the issue.
