Not to be insulted
The BJP worker, identified as Suniel Goel (40), is Block head of Jhilmil Colony in east Delhi. Apparently, he was frustrated with groupism in the part and held a grudge against Arun Jaitely. The incident took place around 11 am on Tuesday at gate number-9, Ashoka Road, in New Delhi area, which is the official residence of Arun Jaitley.
"Goel allegedly tried to commit suicide by immolating himself around 11 am on Tuesday in front of 9, Ashoka Road. He says he is frustrated because of the groupism in his party and also stated that he has a personal problem with Arun Jaitley. He said Jaitley always insulted and demoralised him," a senior police official said.
Intervention
"Goel tried to commit suicide but was stopped in time after the intervention of security guards present in the area. He had a container of kerosene, which he poured over himself and started threatening that he will immolate himself. A call was immediately made to the police. After the police reached the spot, they took him into custody. During interrogation, he said he was unhappy with the party policies. He was also shouting slogans against Arun Jaitley," said KC Dwiwedi, ACP, New Delhi district.
20-yr frustration
Suniel Goel is a resident of Jwala Nagar in east Delhi area and has been associated with the party for the last 20 years. Goel also blamed Jaitley's personal assistant OP Sharma for his action.
