The Baha'i community of India is distressed to know that the seven leaders of the Iranian Baha'i community, detained since May 2008, will be tried by the Revolutionary Court.

The Baha'i community of India is distressed to know that the seven leaders of the Iranian Baha'i community, detained since May 2008, will be tried by the Revolutionary Court.

No legal counsel

"For the past eight months, these seven Baha'is have been detained without any official charges and have no access to their legal counsel,"u00a0 said Nobel Peace Laureate Shirin Ebadi.

The detainees are held inu00a0 Tehran's Evin Prison, which is run by the Ministry of Intelligence.

On 11 February 2009, ISNA news agency quoted Tehran's deputy public prosecutor Hassan Hadda saying that the seven Baha'is are accused of "espionage for Israel."

"The accusations are false, and the government knows this," said Diane Ala'i, the Baha'i International Community representative to the United Nations in Geneva.
