Problems between India and Pakistan have continued despite cricket match invitations, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said on Monday, while attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inviting the Pakistani president and prime minister to the World Cup cricket semi-final between the two countries.

"If Pak President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani can be invited to watch the Mohali cricket match in the name of peace, why should injustice be done to Qasab and Afzal Guru? They should also be given tickets and invited to watch the match on Wednesday," Thackeray sarcastically commented in a sharp editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna, referring to the main accused in the 26/11 Mumbai and the parliament terror attacks.

For years, he said, Pakistani leaders, starting from (the late) Gen Zia-ul Haq and Gen Pervez Musharraf, have been coming to India to watch cricket matches in the name of peace.

However, the problems persisted and India has continued to be a target of terror attacks perpetrated by terrorists from across the border.

"However, instead of adopting a stern attitude against the enemy country, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself is sprinkling salt on the wounds inflicted by the terror," Thackeray wrote.
