If Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo fought aliens, Bandra's Red Ninja takes all street food stalls down, single-handedly. WHAT's ON hit the takeaway stall armed (with a sceptic vision), and returned surprisingly content with everything

As you approach the "cigarette-shop corner" on mid-point Carter Road, a little Ninja hurls an action stunt at you from a bright red restaurant top. Though small, we are deterred from calling it a hole-in-the-wall eatery not because we are scared of the baby Ninja and its flying kick, but because of its fully furnished and stylish interiors.

A UV blackboard with a self-proclaimed "awe-sum dim sum" scrawled on it, creative framed posters advertising their concise but sufficient menu highlights, sparkling white walls, and a clean counter make Red Ninja nothing short of a restaurant, except for the lack of seating. Three-four hip youngsters hang outside the Chinese eatery, as building names, landmarks and hefty orders are being flung around in high-pitch tones.
On the menu: Chicken, Soya Bean, Paneer and Chicken Sui Mai Dim Sums, basic noodle and rice varieties, flat Malaysian noodles, and an 4-odd main course options in vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and four
cooler/beverage picks. Red Ninja's Meal Deals give patrons good value for money a Super Ninja box meal includes a Ninja box (Rice/noodles + main), 2 Dim Sums and a cooler for Rs 140 (Veg) and Rs 145 (Non-veg).
We tried: Gauging from the fast-disappearing food and lack of choice at the end of the day, Red Ninja was seeing a good turnout in its first 10 days. We had to salvage a good meal with paneer as the prime ingredient Paneer in Black Bean Sauce with noodles, Paneer Dim Sums, and flat Malaysian noodles. The noodles and the main course sans the fried paneer pieces was yum. The Malaysian noodles were just right; not too oily and not too dry, and spiced with flavourful bell peppers and chillies. The Paneer Dim Sums were a disappointment, but my non-veg buddy had no complaints of the Chicken version. As usual!
