Injured and humiliated in public by neighbourhood goon, 21-year-old takes law into own hands
For Shabarish, life will never be the same again. Last week, the 21-year-old, who works as an office assistant in an MNC bank, allegedly murdered a local goon who had humiliated him.
The young man is now being held in Parappana Agrahara jail. The police fear his life may now begin to spiral towards crime if left unchecked.
After his arrest, Shabarish told the police what had happened to make him seek revenge.
Hurt by words, knife
Shabarish and his friends Chidanand, a college dropout, and Vivek, an office assistant in a telecom outlet, were on their way to a tea stall in KG Nagar when they were stopped by Somashekhar alias Petty, a local goon.
Petty questioned their presence in K G Nagar and said they should stick to the neighbouring area where they belonged.
When Shabarish tried to talk to Petty, he got a slap in return. An agitated Shabarish then snapped at Petty, who, in a fit of rage, pulled out a knife and attacked the bank employee.
Shabarish was left with deep cuts on his left palm and was bleeding profusely. Chidanand and Vivek tried to catch Petty, but were beaten up too.
Vendetta on mind
A little later, Petty came back and took Shabarish and his friends to Amar Hospital. But the three friends had revenge on their mind.
"We were angry with him because of what he did to us. We wanted to settle scores," Shabarish told the police.
After they were done receiving medical attention, they got into an autorickshaw to go back with Petty.
Shabarish pulled out a knife from Petty's pocket, threatened the driver Mallikarjuna and snatched his mobile phone.
They got off near TR Mill compound, allegedly stabbed Petty to death and dumped his body along with Mallikarjuna's mobile on the road.
Mallikarjuna, who had managed to get away, lodged a complaint with the police. Shabarish, Chidanand and Vivek were caught before they could run away.
"Petty was recently released on bail and had become a nuisance for everyone. Residents are relieved that he is no more," a police officer said. "But the three who have killed him could take his place."
