Au00a0Mumbaiu00a0man who resisted an attempt at petrol theft and his friend were beaten by three people at ISBM in Vimannagar.

The two people who were beaten were students of ISBM school of communication. They said the people who thrashed them were locals trying to steal petrol from a bike belonging to one of them.

The students said they registered a police complaint, but the police denied this.

The incident took place last Sunday, when Akhil Jain noticed that three unknown people were trying to steal petrol from his bike. He screamed at them but they would not stop what they were doing. Jain rushed towards the college to inform his friends and the authorities of what was happening in the parking lot of ISBM.

Jain's friend Savin Chauhan (22) responded to his calls and tried to stop the thieves.

Chauhan, a student of ISBM, said, "My friend Akhil noticed three locals stealing petrol and came up shouting; he was chased and beaten up by three unknown persons. Seeing this I went there and apologised, the hooligans were drunk and came hard at him, and it later turned into a fight."

The executive director of the college, Ujjwal Kumar Chowdhary, accompanied the two students to file a complaint at Kalyaninagar police chowky under the jurisdiction of the Yerawada police station.

Chowdhary said, "It has nothing to do with petrol theft but two of my students were beaten up by drunken men. One of the students suffered an eye injury.

We have registered a complaint at Kalyaninagar police chowky."

Complaint confusion
Officials at the Kalyaninagar police chowky said no complaint had been registered.

"We have registered a police complaint, and if it has not been taken seriously by the police it's really surprising. The police should at least have the culprits' names on record so that if anything happens to us in future they can be interrogated," Chauhan said.

Chowdhary said the college was taking measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

"We put it in the occurrence report and have brought two of the three drunks to the outpost for further action. We have eight lathi-wielding security guards and high vigil now," Chowdhary said.
