The anti-corruption bureau of Maharashtra police today sealed the Nanded residence of G Vijay Krishnan Yadav, a probationary IPS officer who has been named in a case of bribery.
Yadav, posted as probationary Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) at Nanded, around 550 km from Mumbai, allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh from a man to 'dilute' a case of theft. The man lodged a complaint with the ACB, which laid a trap and caught Yadav's aide Sunny Singh Bugai (34) while accepting Rs 1 lakh on Monday. Bugai was placed under arrest.
The 2015-batch IPS officer and his aide had earlier accepted Rs 1 lakh, the ACB said. An offence of theft had been registered against the 34-year-old complainant at Tivasa Police Station. Yadav and Bugai allegedly demanded money from the complainant for not arresting him and diluting the charges against him.
Bugai accepted Rs 1 lakh as bribe at the behest of the IPS officer, the ACB said. "We have summoned the IPS officer but he hasn't
returned to Nanded from Hyderabad yet," said Shrikant Dhivare, Superintendent of Police (ACB), Amaravati.
"Today morning our teams went to his government residence (in Nanded) and sealed it," Dhivare told PTI. A local court has remanded Bugai in police custody for one day, he added.
