The driver and conductor of the BMTC bus were beaten up badly in the presence of around 55 passengers, but none of them came to rescue the driver and conductor.

The driver and conductor of route number 215 (K R Market to Bannerghatta), Shantraj A (37) and V Raghavendra (29), finished their dinner around 10 pm and started their last trip to Bannerghatta, where they were supposed to halt for the day. The incident happened around 10.40 pm when they reached Jaraganahalli Ganesha temple.

"I was going toward Jaraganahalli Ganesha temple.u00a0 A speeding car started honking from behind and I slowed down my vehicle. The car suddenly overtook my bus and parked in front of my vehicle. One of them shouted that 'Can't you hear the horn? I told him that there is lot of space and you carry on," said Shantraj.

"Immediately six well built men who were drunk got out of the car and started hitting me in the bus. They attacked me from all directions. They also damaged a window glass of the bus," he added. Driver Shantraj at that moment was unable to walk. "I was issuing ticket at the back after hearing the sound; I came to front and saw Shantraj was beaten up by a gang.

They even pushed me and I have suffered injuries to my forehead. The bus was full and none of the passengers came to the rescue. Few ladies sitting in the front were shouting at them to leave the driver but no one listened to them," said conductor Raghavendra.

"When I came to rescue of the driver they pushed me and manhandled me. In the meantime the ticket bundles and some cash went missing. They have also snatched the gold chain and watch which Shivraj was wearing," he added.

They have noted down the vehicle number in which the six-member gang was travelling. They went to Talagattapura police station to file a complaint but they were sent to Kumaraswamy Layout police station, as the incident had happened under their jurisdiction. They were then sent to Victoria Hospital for a medical examination and told that they will register the complaint after the treatment.

Suresh who is Shivraj's cousin brought both the driver and conductor of the BMTC bus to Victoria Hospital.
Shivraj had couple of stitches on his face as he had cuts.
