On the bustling lanes of MG Road, its tough to miss the bright red and yellow-hued signboard that tempts you to enter Golden Lounge Bakery and Cafe.

The tiny snack joint is located on the basement and primarily targets office-goers and collegians. As you descend the flight of stairs, you get a glimpse of the eatery which is painted bright yellow. It could either make you cringe or feel the warmth of summer; we actually felt the latter. There are sandwiches, rolls, pastries and pizzas at the main counter and you can spy the goings-on in the corner kitchen through the glass panes or head to the cakes section at the other corner. Whitewashed walls and canary yellow plastic chairs may not spell elegance but the peaceful atmosphere succeeds in making you feel far away from the bustle of the city.

Plus, it has a clean and welcoming look to it.

We tried: The Chicken Salami Sandwich (Rs 30) was satiating and had a distinct taste of salami, which we liked. The Paneer Tikka Roll (Rs 25) was average while the Chocolate Truffle Pastry with Cashew (Rs 35) looked appetising and tasted divine. We loved the sliced cashews embedded in the dark chocolate, which make for a smashing combination.

Service: The service was prompt and we couldn't find reason to complain.

At: Ashok Vijay Complex, 326 M G Road, Camp.
