A senior CBI official, wishing anonymity, said the agency had interrogated the family of Ramphool Chander, the man who was using the cell phone when it was found. "But it was clear that he was not involved in Aarushi's murder or destruction of evidence," the official said. According to the official, the mobile phone was sent to a forensic laboratory for examination as a lot of data had been erased from it after a new SIM was inserted into it inu00a0 February, months after the phone had gone missing.u00a0
During his interrogation, Ramphool revealed he got the phone from his sister Kusum who said she had found it at a park in Sector 37, Noida, soon after Aarushi's murder.
Kusum's cousin Santosh told the media that she had recovered the phone and had kept it with her for months before handing it over to Ramphool.
