“We are in talks with Bollywood delegates regarding VAT, entertainment tax, and other issues, like about single-screen theatres.” He said this after actor Vinod Khanna, on receiving lifetime achievement award at the event, pointed out to the CM that Bollywood matters too.
The audience was thinner compared to last year. The inaugural dance performance featured Sonali Kulkarni, along with other Marathi actresses, with members from the cultural group of MTDC, a partner of the festival. The chief guests at the function were Prithviraj Chauhan, cooperation minister Harshvardhan Patil and environment and cultural affairs minister Sanjay Deotale.
Internationally acclaimed director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, apart from Vinod Khanna, was felicitated with the lifetime achievement award, and celebrated music composer and vocalist Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar received the SD Burman award.
Patil and Deotale both agreed that more funds were needed for PIFF and films in general. Chauhan added, “I feel that we must give more finances to PIFF. This year we provided Rs 70 lakh. That can be increased.” He requested the PIFF team to make a proposal for the same soon and submit it.
